The screen slides hard even though it is not falling out. What is wrong?
Either the rollers have seized or the track is packed with debris. In Argo the track collects a surprising amount of grit, and it acts like grinding paste on the rollers.
Can you make a screen that keeps out the tiny biting insects?
Yes, fine no-see-um mesh. It has a much tighter weave, and in the parts of St. Clair County near water it is the only thing that actually works against the smallest biters.
Can a bent screen frame be straightened?
Sometimes. Light aluminum frames can often be brought back to square, but a badly racked frame is usually better replaced, and a custom panel is not expensive.
Do you repair storm doors as well as screens?
Yes, including closers, latches, sweeps, hinges and glass or screen inserts. Storm door closers that have torn out of the frame after a gust are one of the most common calls.
My screen mesh has gone brittle and crumbles. What happened?
UV exposure. Screens on the south and west sides of a house in Argo take a lot of sun, and standard fiberglass mesh eventually degrades. Solar mesh lasts longer and cuts heat at the same time.
Is it worth rescreening or should I just buy a new screen door?
Rescreening is far cheaper and the frame is usually fine. New panels only make sense when the frame is bent beyond straightening or the corners are gone.
