If you are anywhere between Downtown Attalla and Fourth Street, or out toward the Attalla depot district, we cover it, along with the rest of Etowah County.
Attalla has enough older housing stock that repair almost always beats replacement here, and enough new construction that we spend a lot of time on hardware that failed early.
Tell us what the door is doing and we will tell you what it needs. No guesswork over the phone, no pressure.

These are the door closer repair faults we are called out to most often in Attalla. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- Mounting screws have pulled the door skin outwardA closer fitted to a hollow door without a reinforcing plate.
- Screws pulling out of the door or frameCloser mounting has failed, often because the closer was undersized for the door.
- The closer works well cold and slams when hotFluid thinning with temperature in a unit whose valves can no longer compensate.
- The door needs more force to open than it used toRising internal friction, and on an accessible entrance this can push opening force out of compliance.
- The hold-open function has stopped workingWorn hold-open mechanism in the arm.
- The closer arm is bentThe door has been forced open past its stop, usually by wind or by a cart.

The foothills get real cold snaps and real heat, and the ground moves with them. Rocky, uneven fill under older slabs means door frames rarely stay perfectly square for a decade.
Closer fluid thickens as temperature drops, which is the single most common reason a door that latched perfectly in warm weather stops closing fully in winter, and it is a seasonal adjustment rather than a fault.
When a frame moves with the ground under it, the door binds somewhere in its swing, and people compensate by cranking the closer tighter, which is why so many doors are simultaneously hard to open and still not latching.
We factor that in on every door closer repair job around the Attalla depot district and the rest of Attalla.
Local factors we account for in Attalla: winter freezes and soil movement — typical of the Appalachian foothills.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895How we approach door closer repair
- Time the closeA door that shuts in under five seconds or fails to latch tells us which valve is at fault before the cover comes off.
- Rule out the door firstA closer struggling against a binding door is not a faulty closer. Hinges and reveal get checked before we condemn the unit. We check for freeze damage as well as wear on foothill openings, since both are common and they need different fixes.
- Adjust before replacingMost closer complaints are solved with valve adjustment, and we do that first.
- Size the replacement properlyCloser size depends on door width and weight and on whether it faces exterior wind. Undersized closers fail early.
- Set for people, not just latchingOpening force is checked so the door is usable by everybody, then latch speed is set so it still closes properly.
- Fit a stop if it needs oneA closer with no backcheck and no stop will eventually put the handle through the wall and tear its own fixings out.

Every door closer repair call in Etowah County is a little different, and the cost follows what the door actually needs:

- whether the mounting has to be repaired or reinforced

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Door closer repair in Attalla: questions we get asked
Do you work on floor closers?
Yes. Floor closers under heavy entrance doors are serviceable, though they are more involved to work on because the unit sits in the floor.
Our fire door is propped open. Is that a problem?
Yes, and it is one of the most common code violations we see. A fire door that cannot close and latch is not doing anything. If it gets propped because it is hard to use, that is the problem to solve.
Why is our door so heavy to open now?
Somebody has probably turned the closer up to force a door that was not latching. That is treating a symptom, and it makes the door difficult for customers and staff. Fix the latching problem and the closer can come back to a reasonable setting.
My door does not close all the way. What is going on?
Either the closing force is too low, or the door is dragging on the frame in the last few inches. In Attalla we see the second one often, because a frame that has moved makes a good closer look weak.
What size closer do I need?
It depends on the door width, weight and exposure. Exterior doors in Etowah County also need to handle wind, and an undersized closer on a windy exposure gets destroyed.
There is oil dripping from my door closer. Can it be refilled?
No. Closers are sealed units, and once the seal fails the closer is finished. Refilling is not possible on standard units and the unit needs replacing.
