Blue Ridge sits in Elmore County, and our work here runs from the Wallahatchie Road corridor out past the Coosa River valley, with Millbrook and Wetumpka close enough that we are usually in the area anyway.
Between the established parts of Blue Ridge and the newer subdivisions, we see two different kinds of failure: worn-out frames on one side of town and worn-out hardware on the other.
Tell us what the door is doing and we will tell you what it needs. No guesswork over the phone, no pressure.

These are the door lock repair faults we are called out to most often in Blue Ridge. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- The latch does not retract when you turn the handleFailed spindle, broken spring cassette or a seized latch bolt.
- The key turns hard or sticksWorn cylinder pins, debris in the keyway, or a key that has been copied from a copy too many times.
- The keyed sliding door handle will not lockThe panel has dropped and the hook latch no longer reaches the keeper.
- The mortise lock has stopped working entirelyInternal case failure; on older doors this is a rebuild rather than a swap.
- The key only works if you lift or lean on the doorThe bolt is binding in the strike because the door is sitting low in the opening.
- The bolt leaves a bright scrape mark on the strikeDirect evidence of misalignment. The mark shows exactly which way the door has moved.

Remnants of Gulf systems still carry serious rain this far inland, and doors on the south and west sides of a house take the brunt of it.
Water running down a door face finds its way into the lock body on any door without an adequate drip cap, and the internal springs in a latch mechanism rust and lose tension long before anything visible happens on the outside.
Heat expands a metal door and its frame through the afternoon, and on a west-facing entry the deadbolt can throw perfectly at breakfast and bind against the strike by evening, which is a thermal problem rather than a hardware one.
Knowing that is the difference between a repair that holds through a Blue Ridge summer and one that does not.
Local factors we account for in Blue Ridge: heavy rainfall and sun and heat load — typical of the River Region.

- Test the door before the lockWe close the door slowly and watch where the latch meets the strike, because a bolt that scrapes on entry is an alignment problem no new lock will solve.
- Work from the key inwardThe key, then the cylinder, then the tailpiece, then the latch. Testing in order stops us replacing parts that were fine.
- Correct what movedIf the door has dropped or the frame has shifted, that gets fixed first. Filing the strike to fit a moved door just buys a few months.
- Fit hardware that suits the doorWeight, thickness, backset and exposure all matter, and exterior hardware in this part of Alabama needs the right finish to survive.
- Set the throw and the engagementThe bolt should extend fully with the door closed and no hand pressure on it, and the latch should catch without a push.
- Leave the keying tidyWhere a door has picked up mismatched cylinders over the years, we re-key so one key does the job. We measure the reveal before and after on River Region jobs, so seasonal movement can be told apart from a genuine fault.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of door lock repair in Blue Ridge
What a door lock repair job costs comes down to a handful of things, and we would rather be straight about them up front:
- commercial hardware requirements like fire ratings and lever functions
- whether it is a standard bored lock or a mortise case
- the grade and finish of the hardware you choose
- whether the frame or strike also needs correction
- whether the lock can be rebuilt or needs full replacement
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Blue Ridge.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Door lock repair in Blue Ridge: questions we get asked
Are the locks on my sliding door worth upgrading?
The factory latch on most patio doors is minimal. Adding a foot bolt or an auxiliary track lock is inexpensive and makes a real difference, and it also takes some strain off a latch that may already be marginal.
A key broke off in my lock. Can it be saved?
Usually. We extract the broken piece and check the cylinder, but the reason keys break is that the lock was already stiff, so we look at what caused that rather than just handing back a new key.
My deadbolt only locks if I lift the door. Is the lock broken?
Probably not. That is the classic sign the door has dropped on its hinges or the frame has shifted, so the bolt is hitting the strike plate instead of entering it. In Blue Ridge we see this constantly, and the fix is usually hinge and strike work rather than new hardware.
The lock is fine but the door will not stay shut. What is happening?
The latch is not fully engaging the strike, so the door rests closed but is not actually latched. That is an alignment fix and it is worth doing quickly, because a door in that state offers almost no security.
Can you make all my doors use one key?
Yes. Keying alike is straightforward as long as the cylinders are compatible, and for most Blue Ridge homes with a front door, back door and garage entry it makes daily life a lot simpler.
Why do my locks work loose every few months?
Either the through bolts are backing out from door movement, or the bore has worn oversized. Both are fixable, but if it keeps happening the door itself is probably moving more than it should.
