We take Geneva work across the whole town, the courthouse square through the US-84 corridor, and we cross into Samson and Hartford on the same trips.
Between the established parts of Geneva and the newer subdivisions, we see two different kinds of failure: worn-out frames on one side of town and worn-out hardware on the other.

These are the french door repair faults we are called out to most often in Geneva. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- The multipoint locks at the top but not the bottomThe active leaf has dropped, so the lower keeper is now below the shootbolt.
- The multipoint lock will not throwThe door is not sitting in the frame correctly, so the lock points do not line up with their keepers.
- Cold air pouring in down the middleFailed astragal weatherstrip on the joint between the leaves.
- The flush bolts on the inactive leaf need forcingMisaligned keepers, or corrosion in the bolt housings.
- Condensation in one of the litesFailed insulated glass in a single lite, replaceable on its own.
- The doors rub where they meetOne or both leaves have dropped on their hinges.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Why french door repair fails in the Wiregrass
The Wiregrass gets punishing summer heat and enough tropical rain that hurricane remnants are a normal part of the year, not an exception. Sally and Michael both did door and window damage this far inland.
Grit at the threshold of a French door pair works into the flush bolt sockets at the sill, and a flush bolt that will not seat leaves the inactive leaf floating, which throws the whole pair out.
Sun on a glazed French door pair degrades the astragal seal and the insulated glass edge seals, and it also warms one face of each leaf more than the other, which is a common cause of mild bowing.
It is why the same repair done properly in Geneva lasts, and the same repair done cheaply does not.
Local factors we account for in Geneva: blowing sand and sun and heat load — typical of the Wiregrass.

- Measure the reveal all the way roundThe gap pattern between the leaves and the frame tells us what has moved before we touch any hardware.
- Check each leaf on its ownWith the inactive leaf bolted, we test the active one, then reverse it. Faults that look shared usually are not.
- Correct the hinges before the hardwareMultipoint locks and flush bolts cannot be adjusted into working if the door is sitting in the wrong place. In the Wiregrass we check tracks and channels for fine sand, which grinds moving parts flat faster than anything else in the state.
- Rebuild the seal at the meeting stileAstragal weatherstrip is the hardest working seal on the door and it is usually the one that has been ignored.
- Set the locking hardwareMultipoint points and flush bolts engaged cleanly with no lifting or pulling required.
- Cycle both leaves fullyOpen, close and lock each leaf several times, including the flush bolts, before we call it finished.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of french door repair in Geneva
What a french door repair job costs comes down to a handful of things, and we would rather be straight about them up front:
- interior versus exterior pairs, since exterior work includes weatherproofing
- whether one leaf or both need re-hanging
- astragal, weatherstrip and threshold replacement
- multipoint lock repair versus full gearbox replacement
- whether the frame itself has moved and needs correcting
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Geneva.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895French door repair in Geneva: questions we get asked
Why will my multipoint lock not throw anymore?
The door has moved, so the lock points no longer line up with their keepers in the frame. Forcing the handle in that state is how the gearbox breaks, so it is worth correcting the alignment before something expensive fails.
Are French doors less secure than a single door?
They can be, because there are two leaves and a joint in the middle. Reinforced strikes, solid flush bolts and long fasteners into the framing make a big difference and are inexpensive.
My French doors bind in summer but are fine in winter. Is that normal?
Some seasonal movement is normal in Geneva, but if it is bad enough to stop the door closing, there is usually an underlying alignment problem that the seasonal movement is pushing over the edge.
How do I stop water coming in under my French doors?
Usually the threshold seal and the sill pan. A pair of exterior French doors has a hard job at the bottom of the meeting stile, and in Geneva County storms that is where water finds its way in.
My French doors rub in the middle. Is that because the wood swelled?
Usually not. Nine times out of ten it is hinge sag on one leaf, and the giveaway is that the rub is worse at one end of the joint than the other. Real swelling affects the whole edge evenly and comes and goes with the season.
Can sagging French doors be fixed without replacing them?
Yes, and it is the usual outcome. The fix is proper hinge repair with fasteners reaching the structural framing, plus re-hanging the leaf plumb. Replacing a pair of French doors is a large job by comparison.
