Most of our Jemison calls come from Main Street and the I-65 exit 219 corridor, though we work the whole Chilton County side of it and get out to Clanton regularly.
A lot of what we see in Chilton County comes down to age. Houses built decades ago have solid frames with tired hardware; houses built recently have sound hardware in frames that are still settling.
One call gets you an answer. We will tell you what is wrong and what it takes to fix.
Click to Call (205) 619-2895Common door frame repair faults in Chilton County
These are the door frame repair faults we are called out to most often in Jemison. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- Weatherstrip will not seal no matter what you fitThe gap is not consistent, which means the frame geometry is wrong.
- Caulk at the frame keeps splitting openThe frame is still moving seasonally, so sealant is being asked to do a structural job.
- The frame moves when the door slamsThe frame is no longer solidly fastened to the rough opening.
- Daylight under the thresholdThe sill has deteriorated or the threshold has come loose from the subfloor.
- Interior trim pulling away from the wallMovement in the frame or the wall behind it.
- Soft or crumbling wood at the bottom of the jambRot from water that has been sitting at the threshold, usually for years before it shows.
Most doors we see are repairable.Call and find out before you price a replacement.

Summers here are long and genuinely hot, and afternoon thunderstorms arrive most days in July. Anything that relies on a rubber seal ages fast under that combination of UV and heat.
Heavy rainfall overwhelms whatever drainage exists at a threshold, and if there is no sill pan under the frame the water goes into the framing and the subfloor, so what shows up as a soft jamb is usually the smallest part of the problem.
Sustained humidity keeps jamb material at a moisture content where decay fungi are active, and a frame that never fully dries out will rot from the inside even when the paint on the outside still looks intact.
None of it is a reason to replace a door. It is a reason to use the right parts and set the door up correctly in the first place.
Local factors we account for in Jemison: heavy rainfall and sustained humidity — typical of the River Region.

- Find out what moved and whyWe check plumb, level and square across the opening and look for the cause, because a frame that is out of square because the foundation moved will go out of square again.
- Find where the water gets inRot is downstream of a leak. Repairing the timber without finding the entry point guarantees a repeat.
- Be straight about repair versus replacementSome jambs are worth splicing and some are past it. We tell you which this is rather than defaulting to the bigger job.
- Rebuild with material that survives hereTreated, composite or primed material at the bottom, where water actually sits.
- Reset the door to the repaired frameConsistent reveal, correct hinge alignment and a latch that engages without pressure. Openings here get assessed for drainage as well as alignment, since summer storms find any weakness at the sill.
- Seal and finishCaulking, flashing and paintable finish so the repair is protected from the first rain.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of door frame repair in Jemison
What a door frame repair job costs comes down to a handful of things, and we would rather be straight about them up front:
- whether the threshold and sill pan also need rebuilding
- whether the cause is structural movement that needs to be addressed first
- whether the frame can be spliced or has to be replaced
- interior versus exterior frames, since exterior work includes weatherproofing
- wood versus hollow metal frames on commercial openings
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Jemison.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Door frame repair in Jemison: questions we get asked
Will fixing the frame fix my lock problems?
Very often, yes. If the deadbolt has been hard to throw, the strike side of the frame is usually the reason. Correcting the frame lines the bolt up with the strike again.
How do I know if the damage is rot or termites?
Rot is soft and spongy and follows water paths from the bottom up. Insect damage leaves galleries and frass. Either way the moisture problem that let it start needs fixing, or the repair will not last in Chilton County.
Why does my door bind at just one corner?
The frame is out of square. In Jemison that is usually the house moving, and the corner that binds tells us which direction it moved. Planing the door to fit hides it for a season but does not fix it.
How long does a door frame repair take?
A straightforward jamb splice or strike rebuild in Jemison is a few hours. A full frame replacement with new threshold and flashing is most of a day. Structural movement that has to be addressed first can add to that.
The head of my door frame sags. Is that serious?
It can be. A sagging head jamb often means the header above the opening is carrying load it should not be. We look at that before doing cosmetic work, because the door is telling you something about the structure.
Is it worth repairing a frame on an old house?
Usually very much so. Old growth jamb material is better than most of what you can buy now, and splicing preserves the original profile and casing rather than replacing it with a modern lookalike.
