Whether you are near Talladega Superspeedway, over in the US-78 corridor, or on the Magnolia Street side of Lincoln, it is the same coverage and the same crew.
Lincoln has enough older housing stock that repair almost always beats replacement here, and enough new construction that we spend a lot of time on hardware that failed early.

These are the door hinge repair faults we are called out to most often in Lincoln. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- The top hinge shows a visible V-shaped gapThe classic sag signature. The top hinge is carrying load the other hinges have stopped sharing.
- Squealing or grinding when the door swingsDry or worn hinge pins and knuckles.
- The door swings open or shut on its ownThe hinges are out of plumb, so gravity is doing the work.
- A hinge leaf has bowed away from flatAn undersized hinge for the door weight, common where a solid door replaced a hollow one.
- Paint cracking around hinge leavesMovement. The hinge is shifting every time the door swings.
- Two hinges look fine and one is chewed upLoad concentrated on a single hinge because the others are shimmed or set at different depths.

Storms coming off the ridges dump a lot of water in a short time, and any door with a compromised threshold pan will show it on the floor inside.
A gust catching an open door and slamming it against its stop puts an enormous shock load through the top hinge, and that single event is often what starts a sag that develops over the following months.
Cold thickens whatever lubricant is left in a hinge and makes the pin drag, and a dragging hinge on a heavy exterior door works its screws loose faster than a free-swinging one.
We factor that in on every door hinge repair job around Talladega Superspeedway and the rest of Lincoln.
Local factors we account for in Lincoln: storm wind and winter freezes — typical of the Appalachian foothills.

- Find which hinge actually failedWe check the reveal at the top and bottom of the door, which tells us where the movement started.
- Check what the screws are holding ontoShort screws into casing rather than framing are the most common cause of sag we see, and no hinge fixes that.
- Rebuild the anchorageWhere the screws no longer bite, we fill and re-drill so the fixings reach solid material, then fit long screws into framing. Foothill jobs get assessed for wind loading, because doors here take gusts that flatten seals unevenly.
- Size the hinge to the doorA solid or fire-rated door needs hinges rated for its weight. Three light hinges on a heavy slab will always sag again.
- Re-hang and check the revealAn even gap top to bottom, latch side and hinge side, before we go anywhere near the lock.
- Confirm the latch and lock still line upMoving a door on its hinges changes where the latch lands, so the strike gets checked too.

There is no single price for door hinge repair in Lincoln, because two doors with identical symptoms can need very different work. Here is what makes the difference:
- finish and security hardware selections
- whether the door also needs re-hanging or the strike relocated
- whether the mortises or screw holes need rebuilding first
- standard hinges versus ball bearing or continuous hinges
- how many hinges need replacement versus repair
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Lincoln.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Door hinge repair in Lincoln: questions we get asked
Why do my hinge screws keep coming loose?
Because they are only holding into jamb material, which is often less than an inch of soft wood. Long screws driven into the structural framing behind the jamb solve it permanently.
How do I know which hinge is the problem?
Look at the gap between the door and the frame down the latch side. If it is tight at the top and wide at the bottom, the top hinge has pulled. That is the one carrying the most load and it fails first.
My door swings open by itself. Can that be fixed?
Yes. That means the hinge line is out of plumb, so the door is rolling downhill. Re-hanging it plumb fixes it, and in Lincoln it often turns up in houses where the frame has moved.
What makes hinges squeal?
Dry or worn pins, and sometimes grit in the knuckles. In Lincoln the doors that squeal first are usually exterior doors, because moisture strips the lubricant and starts surface corrosion inside the knuckle.
Can hinges be repaired or do they have to be replaced?
Pins, tips and lubrication problems are repairable. Once the knuckles have worn oval and the hinge has play in it, it is done and needs replacing, and putting a new pin in a worn hinge does not help.
Should I upgrade to security hinges on my exterior doors?
If the hinges are on the outside, yes. Non-removable pins or set screws stop the hinge side being an easy way in, and it is inexpensive compared with everything else you might do to secure an entry.
