Most of our Harvest calls come from Wall Triana Highway and Capshaw, though we work the whole Madison County side of it and get out to Madison regularly.
Door problems in Harvest tend to sort into two groups: older homes where the frames and jambs have taken decades of weather, and newer builds where the hardware was the cheapest part of the package and has already given up.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Why door hinge repair fails in the Tennessee Valley
The Tennessee Valley runs a wider temperature swing than most of Alabama. Summer humidity sits on aluminum and vinyl frames for months, then December through February drops below freezing dozens of nights, and the valley picks up an ice event every few winters.
Cold thickens whatever lubricant is left in a hinge and makes the pin drag, and a dragging hinge on a heavy exterior door works its screws loose faster than a free-swinging one.
A gust catching an open door and slamming it against its stop puts an enormous shock load through the top hinge, and that single event is often what starts a sag that develops over the following months.
We factor that in on every door hinge repair job around Monrovia and the rest of Harvest.
Local factors we account for in Harvest: winter freezes and storm wind — typical of the Tennessee Valley.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Our door hinge repair process
- Find which hinge actually failedWe check the reveal at the top and bottom of the door, which tells us where the movement started.
- Check what the screws are holding ontoShort screws into casing rather than framing are the most common cause of sag we see, and no hinge fixes that.
- Repair the mortise before the hardwareChewed or split mortises get dowelled and re-cut. Fitting a new hinge to damaged timber just moves the failure a few weeks out.
- Match the hinge to the doorWeight, size, throw and finish. Heavy doors and doors with closers need bearing hinges. We look at how the opening behaves wet and dry, since the fault often only appears in one half of the year.
- Re-hang and check the revealAn even gap top to bottom, latch side and hinge side, before we go anywhere near the lock.
- Confirm the latch and lock still line upMoving a door on its hinges changes where the latch lands, so the strike gets checked too.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of door hinge repair in Harvest
We would rather tell you what drives the price than quote a number that turns out to be wrong once we see the door. On a door hinge repair job in Harvest, the main variables are these:
- standard hinges versus ball bearing or continuous hinges
- how many hinges need replacement versus repair
- whether the door also needs re-hanging or the strike relocated
- the weight and size of the door
- finish and security hardware selections
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Harvest.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Door hinge repair in Harvest: questions we get asked
Are the hinges on my sliding door serviceable?
Sliding doors do not use hinges, but French and swinging patio doors do, and they are heavy. Those hinges take a lot of load and are worth checking if the door has started dragging.
How long does hinge work take?
Straightforward hinge replacement is usually under an hour. If the mortises are damaged or the door needs re-hanging and the strike relocated, allow longer.
Do you do commercial hinge work?
Yes, including continuous geared hinges for heavy traffic doors in Harvest businesses that keep tearing standard hinges out of the frame.
How do I know which hinge is the problem?
Look at the gap between the door and the frame down the latch side. If it is tight at the top and wide at the bottom, the top hinge has pulled. That is the one carrying the most load and it fails first.
My door is sagging. Do I need a new door?
Almost never. A sagging door is a hinge problem, usually the top hinge losing its grip on the jamb. Once the fasteners are anchored into the framing properly the door comes back up and latches again.
Why do my hinge screws keep coming loose?
Because they are only holding into jamb material, which is often less than an inch of soft wood. Long screws driven into the structural framing behind the jamb solve it permanently.
