Between Harvest proper, the Wall Triana Highway area and the newer building out toward Capshaw, we stay busy in Madison County, and Madison is close enough that we are often nearby.
Door problems in Harvest tend to sort into two groups: older homes where the frames and jambs have taken decades of weather, and newer builds where the hardware was the cheapest part of the package and has already given up.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Why window repair fails in the Tennessee Valley
River humidity off the Tennessee keeps interior air damp well into October, then the first hard freeze arrives and every seal, sweep and gasket in the house gets tested overnight.
Storm wind drives water horizontally against a window and pressurizes the frame cavity, which forces water past seals and through weep systems that work perfectly well in ordinary rain.
Windows are designed to collect water in the frame and drain it out through weep holes, and blocked weeps during heavy rain is the standard reason water appears on an interior sill.
None of it is a reason to replace a door. It is a reason to use the right parts and set the door up correctly in the first place.
Local factors we account for in Harvest: storm wind and heavy rainfall — typical of the Tennessee Valley.

- Identify the window and its makerBalances, operators and hardware are manufacturer-specific. Identifying the system decides what is available and what has to be adapted.
- Operate it slowly and watchWhere the effort rises through the travel tells us which component has failed, often before anything comes apart.
- Check the drainageWeep holes and sill drainage get checked on any window with water intrusion, because that is usually the cause. Through the Valley we check for seasonal swelling before removing any material, because a door planed in August is a door with a gap in January.
- Be clear where replacement is rightWhere a frame is rotted through or a unit is obsolete, we say so plainly instead of selling a repair that will not hold.
- Reseal properlyNew weatherstrip and glazing seals so the window performs as it should.
- Test operation and lock engagementThe window should open, close and lock without force.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of window repair in Harvest
Pricing on window repair depends on what has actually failed, which is why we talk it through before quoting. These are the things that move the number:
- commercial glazing and access requirements
- screen work alongside the window repair
- the type of window and whether replacement hardware is still available
- single window versus several in one visit
- wood repair and rot splicing where the frame is damaged
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Harvest.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Window repair in Harvest: questions we get asked
How do I stop condensation on my windows in winter?
Some of it is indoor humidity rather than the window. But if the glass surface is cold enough to condense heavily, the unit may have failed. In Harvest it is worth checking whether the moisture is on the surface or between the panes.
My casement crank spins without moving the window. Why?
The gears in the operator have stripped. It is a common failure and a straightforward replacement as long as we can identify the manufacturer.
Is it worth repairing old wood windows?
Very often, yes. Old wood windows in Harvest were made from better material than most modern replacements and were designed to be repaired. Rot can be spliced, sashes rebuilt and balances replaced.
Why will my window not lock anymore?
The sash has dropped or shifted, so the lock and keeper no longer meet. Forcing it can break the lock, and the actual fix is usually alignment rather than new hardware.
Can you replace glass without replacing the whole window?
Yes, in nearly all cases. Broken panes, cracked glass and failed insulated units are all replaceable in the existing frame.
Can foggy windows be repaired?
The sealed glass unit gets replaced, but the frame, sash and hardware stay. That is the repair, and it costs a fraction of window replacement.
