Do you work on French patio doors as well as sliders?
Yes. Hinged French pairs have a different set of problems, mostly hinge sag, astragal binding and multipoint lock failures, but they are just as repairable.
Can the screen be repaired or does it need replacing?
Both are common. Bent frames and destroyed mesh usually get replaced; worn rollers and torn spline are straightforward repairs.
My patio door rattles in the wind. Is that a problem?
It means the panel is loose in the frame and the weatherstrip is no longer holding it. Beyond the noise, it also means air and water are getting through, and in Randolph County storm season that matters.
How do I make my patio door more secure?
A foot bolt or auxiliary lock at the bottom of the panel and anti-lift hardware in the head channel. The factory latch on most patio doors is not much, and in Roanoke it is one of the most common weak points on a house.
Why is there a draft down the middle of my patio door?
