Door problems in Roanoke tend to sort into two groups: older homes where the frames and jambs have taken decades of weather, and newer builds where the hardware was the cheapest part of the package and has already given up.

Spring storm lines come through fast here and put a lot of wind pressure on doors before the rain even starts.
Humidity corrodes the steel components in screen rollers and rusts the tiny springs in adjusters, so screens seize up and drop out of their track.
Grit accumulating in the screen track is the reason most screens get hard to move, and it wears the small plastic rollers far faster than the weight of the panel ever would.
We see the pattern often enough across Randolph County that we usually know what we are looking at before we arrive.
Local factors we account for in Roanoke: sustained humidity and grit and dust — typical of east central Alabama.

- Work out whether it is the screen or the trackA screen that jams is often a track problem. Replacing rollers in a damaged track fixes nothing.
- Check the frame for squareA racked frame will never slide properly. Corner keys get reset before anything else is considered.
- Choose mesh for the jobStandard, pet-resistant, solar or fine insect mesh. The right one depends on the door, the exposure and what tore the last one.
- Rescreen with correct tensionEven tension and properly seated spline so the mesh does not sag or pull out of the channel.
- Fit and adjust the rollersSet so the panel rides smoothly and stays captured in the head channel.
- Check it stays in the trackA screen that can be lifted out is one gust from being on the patio, so the height and the guides get set properly. In east Alabama we check exposure and seasonal movement together, since most openings here see both and the combination is what causes failures.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of screen door repair in Roanoke
Pricing on screen door repair depends on what has actually failed, which is why we talk it through before quoting. These are the things that move the number:
- roller and track work in addition to the screen itself
- custom-built replacement panels where the original is not repairable
- the mesh type chosen, from standard fiberglass to pet-resistant and solar
- rescreening versus repairing or replacing the frame
- the size of the panel
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Roanoke.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Screen door repair in Roanoke: questions we get asked
My sliding screen keeps falling out. Why does it keep happening?
The rollers have worn down so the panel is riding too low and the top rail no longer sits in the head channel. Lifting it back in without replacing the rollers means it will come out again, usually within days.
Is it worth rescreening or should I just buy a new screen door?
Rescreening is far cheaper and the frame is usually fine. New panels only make sense when the frame is bent beyond straightening or the corners are gone.
Will a solar screen make my room cooler?
It helps noticeably on a sunny exposure. Solar mesh blocks a good portion of the heat before it reaches the glass, which matters on west-facing doors during Roanoke summers.
My screen mesh has gone brittle and crumbles. What happened?
UV exposure. Screens on the south and west sides of a house in Roanoke take a lot of sun, and standard fiberglass mesh eventually degrades. Solar mesh lasts longer and cuts heat at the same time.
What mesh should I use if I have dogs?
Pet-resistant mesh, which is a heavier vinyl-coated polyester, and often a pet grille across the lower section. Standard fiberglass will not survive a dog that pushes against it.
Do you repair storm doors as well as screens?
Yes, including closers, latches, sweeps, hinges and glass or screen inserts. Storm door closers that have torn out of the frame after a gust are one of the most common calls.
